Birds,
Beasts and Fantasy Despite appearances, most of the paintings on this page were arrived at after some farily intensive and careful drawing! The three paintings of cats were painted during and after a visit to Wales. In pouring rain I took shelter to draw in the greenhouse looking across the lawn to the trees beyond. After a while the cat came and joined me and found its way into my drawing almost as an afterthought. Later the colours took on a life of their own and the landscape inhabited by the cat became more and more unlike that which had originally inspired my drawings. I found it bemusing to return from such a wet, green place with such colourful paintings and can only say that the colour represented for me some kind of inner reality, for it was a joyously stimulating time, full of a sense of being poised on the threshhold of adventure. to return to Full Selection, click here To
